9:00 pm

This is a longstanding gig I’ve been privileged to be a part of, a great band playing Avram’s surprisingly twisty fusion/funk compositions. Kenny Wessel and Dave Phelps double-guitar madness is not something to be missed, and Avram can really blow a badass solo when he settles down into the groove

Sundays, February 12th and 26th

Dave Phelps guitar
Stuart Popejoy elec. bass

IRON DOG w/ Soundbats, Reuben Radding @ Freddy’s Back Room

November 29, 2011
8:00 pm

Curated by John Mettam, three trios — Iron Dog for the first time in a minute, Sound Bats with Bassoon-sters Mettam and Sean Moran + Briggan Krauss, and Reuben leading an original + Balkan classics outfit — converge on the new Back Room.

THREE BY THREE: A NIGHT OF BROOKLYN TRIOS
IRON DOG [8pm]
THE SOUNDBATS [9pm]
THE REUBEN RADDING GROUP [10pm]

Tuesday, November 29 ยท 8:00pm – 11:00pm

Freddy’s Bar (Park Slope Brooklyn)
627 5th Ave (at 17th Street),
Brooklyn, NY 11215

Three trios, one night…Iron Dog, The Sound Bats, and The Reuben
Radding Group have influences that reach from the far corners of the
globe to the mysterious nether regions of the psyche. Filled with
electronically manipulated organic sounds, bristly downtown punk-jazz,
and traditional Balkan music โ€“ get ready for a cosmopolitan night of
music that could only be Made In Brooklyn.

IRON DOG
Iron Dog creates sonic landscapes where hypnotic, minimalist
structures erupt into frenetic, metallic onslaughts. Sarah Bernstein
on processed violin and vocals/text; Stuart Popejoy on distorted bass
guitar and synthesizer; Andrew Drury on drumset, textures and sounds.

“It will defy your expectations while providing some thought-provoking
voltage readings.” — Gapplegate Guitar and Bass Blog

http://www.irondogmusic.com/

THE SOUNDBATS
The Soundbats are a collaborative trio which blends punk, downtown
improv, and progressive rock. Downtown hipsters, head-banging punk
rockers, and carnies will all find something to smile about.

“Working as the Soundbats, saxist Briggan Krauss, guitarist Sean Moran
and drummer John Mettam pump out thorny, rock-fueled downtown-style
jazz in a Tim Berne vein.” – TimeOut New York

http://www.myspace.com/soundbats

REUBEN RADDING GROUP
The Reuben Radding Group plays traditional Balkan and original compositions.

“Radding demonstrated a clear command of his instrument, veering with
abandon between conventional pizzicato work and a post-free
liberty-taking aided by bow, sticks, and hands. A muscly, mesomorph
figure, Radding bullies, slaps, and worries his bass like a
half-bothered, fully curious black bear mauling a backpacker.” –Peter
Monahan, Earshot Jazz
